Implementing Technology into the classroom

Through this semester there have been many different applications that I could apply to Physical Education.  One that I want to start implementing would be using google forums to collect data from students like attendance and Heart rate during activities.  My whole fifth grade has laptops that they can bring to the gym for class.

I learned a lot of different video formats in a workshop I took with Jim.  I feel that knowing the formats now will aid in saving final projects and publishing video to the Internet.

Also within physical education I can use pod casts to instruct a station work.  Students can listen to the instructions and if I created video pod casts they could view the example of the activity.  I would make digital lesson plans so if I was absent the students could perform the activities.

Technology within the Classro

After this class my mind was non-stop thinking how to integrate all these great programs into my teachings.  I was opened up to many different programs including Flickr a photo-sharing program.   This program can help you narrate what you want to point out in photos and do digital story telling.   I feel that the file-sharing world has opened up the word so that everything is public and can be used by all.  I think it is a great way for teachers to collaborate.

The usage of podcasting is another great teaching tool.  Podcasts can be used to explain information or instructions for students to do. Podcasts are great way fro students to respond to readings and questions.

Google documents are a great way to work on the internet and share documents between multiple owners.  I think it is a great way for students to do projects and collaborate together.

Using diverse instruction helps students attain information.

Advanced Organizers

Simply put, the information tends to be less “fuzzy” and more precise. Graphics help students separate what is important to know from what might be interesting, but not essential information”

This quote from the reading represents what I believe graphic and visual organizers are.

Within the classroom I use graphic organizers constantly.  When introducing a next topic within social studies, students use KWL charts to put their information on their fingertips.  I feel it is a great tool and it is proven to help raise test scores by helping students focus on the essential information.

One time I used a concept map when introducing the branches of government and their specific jobs.  I did this on a smart board and had three groups fill in one branch of the government each.  Once the three groups finished I shared the concept map with the entire classes laptops and we discussed it.  Students were given a challenge to make it easier to understand students changed color of text bolded and tried to re organize it but no matter what it was an easier way to attain the information than from text.

"Learning Styles"

I believe that Teachers should not teach to their students’ perceived learning style.  When teaching you need to assess the characteristics of each class as individuals before planning for the whole.   Teaching to what is perceived can hurt a student learning.  Students may have trouble relating to links that are not present in their life.

Having a lock step approach does not help all students to all become successful. Students should not have modalities of constant direct instruction. Gender, age, ethnicity and social background all influence the basis for all students’ knowledge.  Teachers should plan and allow for self-exploration, and allowing students to learn from their own experiences.  By differentiating instruction students gain and maintain valuable information easier than the lock step approach.   Students learn better with visual, auditory and kinesthetic reinforcement.
